As you may or may not have been aware, many of the latest Achren shows have been performed without the talents of Gordon on drums. For these shows, our brother and long-time friend of the the band, Quzzy, has stepped in to fill the drum stool. The reason for this is that, over the last couple of years, Gordon has found himself with increasing work and family commitments, making him unavailable at short notice for many of the studio and live dates that we would have like to have performed.
After our recent tour of the UK, we mutually decided that we cannot continue in this way. Therefore, in an amicable fashion, Gordon has left Achren to fulfil his other duties.
What does this mean for Achren? Well, for a start, certainty. Quzzy has agreed to continue to play drums for Achren both live and in the studio for the time being, meaning that we can now move forward with the new EP and album that we have planned as well as stepping up our live schedule in support of these. Because of Quzzy’s dedication to his own bands Co-Exist and Bacchus Baracus, he will not be joining Achren on a permanent basis; however, this will allow us to perform live and in the studio until a permanent replacement can be found.
We will still be performing at any and all dates that we have currently booked – indeed, we will soon be entering the recording studio and will be booking additional shows when the release dates are confirmed. As Quzzy has been our de facto drummer for the majority of our 2012 Autumn tour, there will be no concerns about changes in the quality of the performances.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Gordon for the many years and hard work that he has contributed to Achren. It’s sad to see him go and we wish him all the best.
